May 2008

May 7th, 2008

Our next meeting is at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21st, 2008 in the Odd Fellows Hall in Waterloo.

May Bar-B-Q

We have our Spring Bar-B-Q on from 8 a.m. to around 4 p.m. on May 10th, at Schneider’s Market. We have several Sir Knights that have already signed up for shifts, but more help would be appreciated. Contact Terry Schreder or Steve Dressler for support needs.

Spring Dinner

Once again, we had a wonderful time this year at the Spring Fling dinner at the Acorns Golf Club. Even though Mother Nature was doing her best to keep people from coming, we had an attendance 27 Sir Knights and their families, and four Sisters from Gibault. Thank you all for coming and enjoying the evening with each other. I hear the apple cobbler was a hit, so we’ll keep that going for next year. Maybe it won’t snow as we arrive, making the ice cream go better with the cobbler.

Remembrance

I am sorry to inform you of the recent passing of Sir Knight Harold Lickenbrock of Waterloo. Please remember Harold and his family in your prayers.

Involvement

A theme that I have in this edition of the newsletter is getting our membership to become more involved in the activities our Assembly performs. We’re not asking for much, but the more hands the easier the job. I’m asking each of you to look around you and determine how you can find just a couple of extra hours a year (yes… a year!!) to help us out with our activities. Here are some examples:

· Spring Fling Chairman – Handling arrangements and communications.

· Bar-B-Q Chairman - Handing arrangements, communications, and soliciting volunteers.

· Membership Committee - Recruiting new members and contacting existing Sir Knights.

· Vocation Chairman – Maintaining contact with our priests and seminarians.

· Public Relations Chairman - Keeping our Assembly’s activities in the press.

· Assembly Officer - A good way to get involved, but not over commit.

May is Officer Elections

Would you like to get more involved with the operations of the Assembly? Have you wondered what has been going on in the meetings? Why not consider being more involved by nominating yourself for a position as an Assembly officer? Come to the next meeting and throw your name in the hat. We’re always glad to have different opinions and additional creative minds to help keep our Assembly strong and current.

Faithful Scribe Position

At this time, Ken Gibbs will not run for re-election as our Faithful Scribe. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude for Ken’s exemplary service to our Assembly and wish him well on his future endeavors.

This means that the position is open during these elections. The position of Faithful Scribe is responsible for the meeting minutes for all meetings. A good candidate need not be a shorthand expert, but should be somewhat organized. I’m sure Ken would share some of the insights he has gleaned during his tenure. If you are interested, simply come to our next meeting to get all of the details and put your name on the ballot.

Vivat Jesus!

Joe Dent, F.N., P.G.K.

This is being setup as a hobby for the time being. More details and features will be added over the next few months.
